Functional Transit Winnipeg’s priorities for this election are increased operating funding for transit, implementation of a frequent service network and measures to address driver and passenger safety. We have noted  comments related to those priorities in the summaries.

Brian Mayes

Winnipeg’s transit system in three words: “Steady improvement possible.”

Gives current transit system a letter grade of B.

Does not believe transit is in fact the “most important issue” according to Winnipeggers, but is an increasingly important issue.

Frequency: Believes Winnipeggers would like to have a viable option to take Transit – particularly by increasing service to suburbs.

Would continue to work towards expanding Handi-Transit to all parts of the city.

Safety: Pushed for 6 new transit security staff in 2014 budget and added 5 more since then. Believes involving Winnipeg Police, ATU and WAPSO to develop a better security presence on buses will help with current safety issues.

Believes the province should restore the 50/50 funding arrangement so service can be expanded and not simply maintained at current levels.
