All candidates were sent a questionnaire put together by Functional Transit Winnipeg and given several weeks to reply. Responses have been summarized below. You can read each candidate’s full response and the questions we asked by following the link underneath each summary.

Functional Transit Winnipeg’s priorities for this election are increased operating funding for transit, implementation of a frequent service network and measures to address driver and passenger safety. We have noted  comments related to those priorities in the summaries.

Michael Wiens

Winnipeg’s transit system in three words: “Not quite complete.”

As our population ages, transit will be required more than ever.

Would like to see transit expanded to the perimeter and build park & rides for the suburb commuters to reduce the daily demand during rush hour.

Safety: Operators should not engage in disputes with a patron that is causing a problem. A policy of stopping the bus and waiting for police assistance should be implemented.

Operating funding: Will increase transit’s budget to allow for expansion to the bedroom communities.

Ross Eadie

Transit is essential, not just a convenience.

Ridership numbers will not go up unless it is convenient for those who have alternatives.

Operating funding: Disagreed with increasing funding for transit with parking meter revenue.

Councillor Eadie has requested additional time to respond further
